It's unfortunate when things like this happens. I guess it helps to go in waters that don't have sharks, not worth the risk

Holy crap that would not be a fun day. Remember safety first everyone. I don't think that shark attacks are very common though. it really depends where you are fishing I would say. I guess around Maui there are a lot of sharks.

that and there is info out there that tells you what waters are known to have sharks, sometimes people just take the risk

I posted a video here of a shark snatching a catch from someone fishing in a Kayak. Crazy stuff. You should watch it.

Default re:sharks and kayaks

Good morning to all-
New guy on this forum.
Here's what I think about sharks and kayaks. First, i have kayaked in saltwater both inshore and offshore for many years. I have seen sharks big enough to pucker me up tight. I have hooked a number of sharks while kayak fishing. I don't worry about sharks much at all.
First, sharks want something to eat, and if you don't present them something to eat- and that includes yourself, there won't be a problem. Next, I NEVER put caught saltwater fish I plan to keep on a stringer. that's the best way in the world to learn more about sharks than you ever want to know very quickly. Use a keeper box or ice chest- anything that doesn't allow fish blood to escape into the water. finally, i NEVER bring a shark of any size into the kayak. I get it to the boat as close as I think is wise and then I cut the line. Even a little bitty shark which is brought aboard a kayak can cause a lot of damage and pain.
Treat them respect and sharks are really no big deal- like a lot fo people I know, really.

you all be safe and keep well-Ed
