First trip out in kayak

So I decided to try it. A friend and I loaded the kayaks and took off for Oxnard California. Watching the weather the morning of they said high surf advisory for west facing beaches. After a hour and a half drive we finally got to the marina. Waves were crashing over the break wall. Dredges were going up and down the marina at the entrance. So we decided to just stay in the marina since neither of us have ever kayaked in the ocean before. We caught a lot of bait fish and had a nice day all things considered. Ready to go again and try to make it out into open water this time.

Pretty much dead winter here even though it's in the 50's this weekend. I don't see myself doing water related stuff until about May.
My big learning curve this season is getting in and out of a kayak, something I am totally awkward at so far. I may go as far as making outriggers for it too. I know that's kind of like training wheels on a Harley but such is life. Starting this late in life I may need the assist!
You guys who do the ocean or even a big lake, bravo, I am strictly small water so far.
